Levytykset

Dean & Francesconi -CD elokuun Editor’s Choice Gramophonessa

Brett Deanin ja Luca Franscesconin trumpettikonserttojen levytys Håkan Hardenbergerin kanssa on valittu Gramphone-lehden elokuun Editor’s Choice -CD:ksi muun muassa seuraavin saatesanoin: “Not only is Dean’s piece as theatrical as its title would suggest, it also has a compelling downwards trajectory…Luca Francesconi’s concerto Hard Pace couldn’t be more different but is just as special, perhaps even more so…With Storgårds and the GSO, it’s a dream team” Gramophone Magazine, August 2017

Antheil-CD Gramophone Magazinen kesäkuun numeron Editor’s choice

Gramphone toteaa kesäkuun numeron arviossaan Antheil-CD:sta muunmuassa seuraavaa:

‘Rather than placing these symphonies squarely in the mid-century mainstream…John Storgårds revels in their idiosyncrasies, revealing a wealth of expressive detail I’d never heard before…A brilliant recording all around, and an important one. Bring on the next instalment.’

Lapin kamariorkesterin Aho-levylle
ECHO KLASSIK palkinto

Lapin kamariorkesterin levytys Kalevi Ahon käyrätorvi- ja thereminkonsertoista on saanut merkittävän saksalaisen ECHO KLASSIK 2015 -palkinnon 1900-2000 -lukujen musiikin konserttolevytysten sarjassa. BIS-levymerkillä 2014 ilmestyneellä CD:llä Lapin kamariorkesteri soittaa John Storgårdsin johdolla Kalevi Ahon käyrätorvikonserton, solistina Annu Salminen, ja thereminkonserton, solistina Carolina Eyck. Molemmat teokset on sävelletty 2011, ja Lapin kamariorkesteri kantaesitti thereminkonserton 2012. Ainoat suomalaiset palkinnonsaajat olivat tänä vuonna Kalevi Aho, Lapin kamariorkesteri, Storgårds ja Annu Salminen.

ECHO KLASSIK -palkinto on yksi huomattavimmista kansainvälisistä levypalkinnoista.

 * * *

Viulutaiteilija Christian Tetzlaffin ja Helsingin kaupunginorkesterin yhteistyö on viiden tähden täysosuma.
John Storgårdsin johtama Helsingin kaupunginorkesteri osuu kaikessa nappiin, niin slaavilaisessa paatoksessa kuin tanssivassa siroudessa. Josef Sukin Fantasian avaus on vavahduttavan raju. Orkesterin ja viulun levottomasta vuorottelusta kasvaa yhä uusia teemoja, joiden kirjo riittäisi kokonaisen konserton aineksiksi. Loistava äänitys kääntää Musiikkitalon akustiikan heikkoudet voitoksi.

Helsingin Sanomat 16.3.2016
HKO, joht. John Storgårds, sol. Christian Teztlaff (Dvořák: Viulukonsertto. Suk: Fantasia, Ondine 2016)

Parhaimmillaan 4. ja 5. sinfoniassa Storgårds tavoittaa ”sotasinfonioiden” levottomuuden ja tunnelmien lähes raivokkaan vaihtelun. 3. sinfonian flirttaileva valssillisuus panee sekin hymyilemään Nielsen-kirjoittajien pakonomaiselle tarpeelle julistaa omalle ajalleen altistunut sävelsanonta ”puhtaaksi” musiikiksi.

Vahva kokonaisuus, jota kuuntelee mieluusti sen persoonallisen jäljen ansiosta.
